Theme: Cozy

It’s time to get cozy! Make something that represents your idea of cozy, and document how you did it in a detailed step-by-step “how-to” document. 

Participants are encouraged to use City Library Creative Labs to help create their projects. Projects may include thematic prototypes or usable items. 

The top submissions may be turned into a Maker Box project available to patrons. Outstanding submissions may be featured entries on the City Library Biblioboard webpage.

Submission Guidelines: 

What is a Maker Box? 

A Maker Box is a kit that includes all the supplies and instructions to complete a "Maker" project. Use photos, text, or video to teach skills and techniques. You will need supplies and a camera (to document the process). We encourage you to use supplies from around your house or upcycle found materials. The City Library Creative Labs are here to support your Maker endeavors! You may find available equipment, hardware, and software on the Creative Lab webpage, slcpl.org/creativelab.

To enter, create a document that details your project (see main criteria below) and gives step-by step instructions to complete the project. Please include the following on your submission:

Email Address

Project Title

Introduction

Supplies

Step 1: Enter step title

Write a detailed description of this step

Attach supporting photos or documents

Maker Box Challenge FAQs:

  • The contest will run for four weeks
  • There are no limits on the number of entries you can enter into the competition.
  • You may not edit an entry after it has been submitted.
  • Submissions are evaluated by a panel of staff judges based on the following criteria: Project incorporates the theme, creativity, innovation, reusing materials, and a replicable project. 
  • The top submissions may be turned into a Maker Box project available to patrons. Outstanding submissions may be featured entries on the City Library Biblioboard webpage.

The main criteria we look for are:

  • Title that explains the project
  • Introduction that states what the project is, how the project ties into the theme, and the motivation for the project
  • Original photos that clearly document the project steps
  • Easy to follow steps with explanations for each step of the process
  • Include necessary materials and tools and links to product when appropriate
  • Any additional downloadable documentation (patterns, etc)
  • Video content if desired
  • We do not accept submissions that include affiliate-type links, spam, promotion of specific products or service, withholding key information or linking offsite
